K-12s and Universities are adopting Blended Learning, where classwork takes place online as well as in rooms. To do this, they need intranet sites. If they have Google Apps for Education, do they need Drupal as well? Discuss.
We'll talk about the different types, explore some Drupal distributions, and stay in touch perhaps. Previous iteration of this presentation: drupalcampma.com/drupal-moodle-instructional-design-blended-learning-communities .
Educational Intranet Types:
- Learning Management System (LMS): Moodle is one, Amherst College in Mass has made one in Drupal... There's also Docebo in sandbox mode - and EthosCE is a Drupal?moodle Bridge. Google Apps has CloudCourse now
- Learning Content Management System (LCMS): Open Scholar (Harvard/Acquia) is a Drupal Distro.
- Social Learning Environment (SLE): ELMS (Penn State - by Bryan Ollendyke), EduGlu (BYU - by Kyle Mathews), Drupal Commons (Acquia) and VoiceBox (FunnyMonkey - by Bill Fitgerald) are candidates.
- Digital Portfolio: Sakai and Mahara are favorites in NH, but a Drupal distro would be lovely. See funnymonkey.com/drupal-as-portfolio-platform. Could Google Apps do this? Helen Barrett says so.
