Live Free & Drupal - October 29th, 2011 - Manchester, New Hampshire

Ecosystem & Community

The Ecosystem & Community track covers basically anything that concerns the Drupal community. It involves introductions to DrupalCon and Drupal, how to get involved in the various ways of contributing to the project, how the Drupal ecosystem develops as well as challenges to be faced.

Contribute to the Drupal community without writing a line of code

Have you ever been curious about contributing to the Drupal community, but felt you weren't able to because you

  • Don't know PHP
  • Can't figure out IRC or issue queues
  • Are shy about jumping in
  • Aren't sure what's the current needs are
  • E, all of the above?

In this session I'll talk about the many ways you can contribute, how to get started, who is who amongst Drupal leaders (beyond the obvious!), and most importantly, how your participation can benefit you AND the community!

Contributing to Drupal: Taming the Issue Queue and Juggling Code

Learn how to contribute to Drupal via the project issue queue system on drupal.org, learn how to get code using git, and how to both test existing patches and create your own! In addition you'll also get an overview of how to manage your own project. Bonus content: Freddy Mercury.

This will be a guided introduction to contributing to the Drupal community's code and will show how anyone can quickly get started.

Drupal Distributions for Education

K-12s and Universities are adopting Blended Learning, where classwork takes place online as well as in rooms. To do this, they need intranet sites. If they have Google Apps for Education, do they need Drupal as well? Discuss.

We'll talk about the different types, explore some Drupal distributions, and stay in touch perhaps. Previous iteration of this presentation: drupalcampma.com/drupal-moodle-instructional-design-blended-learning-communities .
